SURCLA and AILASA HDR and ECR Research Symposium
Sydney University Research Community for Latin America (SURCLA) and Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia (AILASA) HDR and ECR Research Symposium
The Sydney University Research Community for Latin America (SURCLA), in collaboration with the Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia (AILASA), is inviting expressions of interests for short presentations to feature in two panels for discussion surrounding the topics of “Impacts of COVID-19 on research into Latin America” and “The future of Latin American studies in Australia”.
About
Latin American studies has for many years occupied a subaltern space in Australian institutions relative to other area studies disciplines. Research in the discipline has also often been dependent upon travel to the continent in order to access archives or to conduct field research. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent travel bans have had a profound effect on Australian institutions and in particular the smaller disciplines in terms of domestic enrolment numbers. This research symposium aims to explore in detail the impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had upon research into Latin America conducted in Australia, as well as what the future of the discipline may look like.
