Event Overview
This event aims to bring together educators from across the Jewish school education space to learn, discuss and be challenged by the key issues facing Jewish school education in NSW. Key themes such as the state of the Jewish day school system; Jewish education; the place of Israel education and what can be learned from the lessons of the past will be presented on, discussed and critiqued. At the core of this symposium, participants will both learn and have the opportunity to discuss these key issues, so critical to our future.

Speaker profiles
David Gonski AC
David is Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, President of the Art Gallery of NSW Trust, Non-Executive Chairman of Barrenjoey Capital Partners Group Holdings Pty Limited, and Chairman of the UNSW Foundation Ltd. He is a member of the Board of the Lowy Institute for International Policy, a non-executive Member of LeapFrog Investment’s Global Leadership Council, a Patron of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation and Raise Foundation and a Founding Panel Member of Adara Partners.
He was previously Chairman of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd, Chairman of Sydney Airport Limited Board, Chair of the Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Australian Schools for the Commonwealth Government of Australia. He was also a member of the Takeovers Panel, the ASIC External Advisory Panel and Director of Singapore Airlines Limited, the Westfield Group and Singapore Telecommunications Limited, Chairman of Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd, the Australian Securities Exchange Ltd, the Sydney Theatre Company, the Guardians of the Future Fund, the Australia Council for the Arts, the Board of Trustees of Sydney Grammar School and Investec Bank (Australia) Ltd.
Robert M Goot AO SC
Robert has been involved with Jewish education in the day school movement for more than 30 years and with campaigning and advocacy of Jewish rights and Israel for more than 50 years. He has occupied a number of leadership positions in Jewish organisations in Australia and overseas.
Professor Emerita Suzanne Rutland OAM
Suzanne D. Rutland (OAM, PhD), Professor Emerita, the Department of Hebrew, Biblical & Jewish Studies, University of Sydney, is a renowned Australian Jewish historian who has published widely on Australian Jewry, the Holocaust, Soviet Jewry, antisemitism and Jewish education. She has devoted her life to Jewish and religious education, with her latest books being Special Religious Education and its Value in Australian to Contemporary Society (Springer 2021), co-authored with Professor Zehavit Gross of Bar-Ilan University. As a member of the Australian Delegation to the IHRA she serves on the Education Working Group and the Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial.
