Dante 2021 | Film screening: L’Inferno
The Department of Italian Studies presents
Film screening: L’Inferno
The Department of Italian Studies organises a screening of the silent film L’Inferno, released in Italy in 1911 on the occasion of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Italy’s unification in 1861. Based on the first canticle of Dante’s Divine Comedy, L’Inferno is the first full-length Italian feature film and describes Dante’s hell following the 19th-century engravings produced by Gustave Doré for an edition of the Divine Comedy.
The film will be introduced by Associate Professor Giorgia Alù of the Department of Italian Studies.
